Chapter 2: How the Obsession Begins 



April 3, 2022


I saw her again. She always goes to the Target first, not for the Target run but to get her Starbucks and then walk around the mall. I wonder if today she will go counter-clockwise since she alternates her route. I know this may seem creepy but I am too shy to talk to her. She is so pretty. My crush, my obsession is 5 foot 5, looks to be about 250 pounds, big breasts (but not too large and not that I stare), and she has curly brown hair and brown eyes. My crush seems so nice. 


Today she has this amazing dress. It is blue and has some green striping on it, diagonal stripes and she is wearing her usual white cross body bag. I have never seen her use another purse. Maybe she just loves routine and never changes them out. Either way, I am going to work up the nerve to talk to her. 


April 10, 2022


I am sitting in the Starbucks and I notice that she is not here. She is usually here at this time. Is there something wrong? I see that there is a group of women, around her age and sometimes she does come to the mall with them. Did she get a hair cut? I see that she is not there. All her friends are. It would be too weird if I asked where she is since I never talked to her before. 


April 20, 2022 

After the previous attempt of me wanting to talk to my crush, well others would call it obsession, she was not there. Today, I am going to wait in the Target, she normally gets here around 12 and leaves around 2. It is currently 1:30 so I might catch her when she gets another Starbucks drink. 

When I see her, she looks at me and blushes a bit. Pushing her hair to one side. I wave and she waves back. Go get her! No don't let her come to you... I don't know what I want to do. I see her go on her phone. She gets her drink. She passes me, "Excuse me." She says quietly before moving passed me. Something drops out of her pocket but by the time, my shy self is able to process it. 

"You dropped something." I say looking down but she is long gone and nobody else was looking towards the situation. So I simply picked it up. She dropped a chapstick. Burt's Bees Cucumber Mint. I wonder if she likes the scent Cucumber Melon from Bath and Body Works. Maybe that would be insulting if I gave it to her. 


***LATER - - - -  AT HOME *** 

She was so pretty. I admit I have not idea where this obsession started. It is not like I know her. Or do I? I all of a sudden go to the basement and get out my box of year books from middle school and high school. I don't remember any crushes of mine start from elementary school. I flip through, there was a heart around my teacher Ms.RIVERA from 8th grade science. I continue to flip through. Then there she is... Jasmine - she was a grade above me. I noted that she said hi to me in band once. I played the trumpet and she was in the color guard. She was so pretty, but nobody ever saw her. Except I did. And I still do.

Shooting Star

  Has anyone ever gotten a wish granted from a shooting star? That thought entered Elaine's mind when she was sitting on her balcony on a rainy night in July. She started to draw in her notebook and started to write down her wishes and dreams. I wish there would be a time where I can just relax. She shook her head and laughed. She knew she was not the person to typically just sit down and do nothing. Is that original to any other thought that others have? Like the ability to lose weight but still eat those cupcakes.  The rain had cleared and she looked up. There it was, a shooting star. WOAH!  She never thought she would see one after a storm. So she whispered her wish. To have a day of relaxation. She then went inside and closed the screen door, glass door, and her blinds. Went to her room and laid down on her bed.
